Lam knew from the get-go that they
would be doing things differently in
order to increase their chances of suc-
cess. For one, getting rid of the night
shift.
“
We know that often with the
night shift in manufacturing, things
can go awry. It was easier for us to
just have one shift so that the day shift
people aren’t fixing the night shift
mistakes,” Vencken says. And quality,
in a business that is as competitive as
Mara’s, is key.
The company’s products go
through many quality inspection
processes. “We have quality track-
ing printouts every month to monitor
our manufacturing, and we use all the
highest technology equipment and
products out there,” Vencken says. Ev-
erything in the Mara operation relies
on quality and service, from engineer-
ing to what’s done in the plant.
“
We really are doing our best to
take the customers’ problems onto
our hands,” Vencken comments. The
company is one of the best equipped
manufacturing companies in the GTA,
and can really manufacture anything
demanded on the market.
CELEBRATING A DECADE
Of all Mara employees, 27 have
been with the company for the entire
tenure of the business. Vencken beams
that the company really doesn’t have
turnover: “we know everyone by first
name and besides a handful of staff
changes at the beginning, everyone
who is hired has stayed on.”

As a management team, we
try to set the best example we can,”
Vencken says, which includes an open-
door policy and a commitment to
company culture. At the recent 10 year
anniversary celebration, those who has
been with the company for its entire
existence were recognized and hon-
oured with a gold coin, exemplifying
the importance of a strong staff.
For the future, Mara will con-
tinue to serve customers with tenacity
and vigour, offering the best possible
products on the market. “We will stay
healthy and be a perfect contractor,”
Vencken concludes. And with a solid
reputation backed by an excellent
management team, the company looks
forward to celebrating many more an-
niversaries to come.
