Vencken notes. “We initially went to
one of our former customers and asked
for their work. That customer said that
if we made them a partner, they would
help us garner more business,” he
adds.
The company began with mostly
consigned contract work and then ex-
panded to offer full turnkey supply
chain solutions. In 2006 the company
added another SMT line and due to
this expansion, Mara had to relocate:
the company opened its current facility
in 2008. The current facility is 40,000
square feet and is large enough to ac-
commodate more growth for Mara.
The company now is a mid-size assem-
bly house and employs about 100 em-
ployees. Mara has five full SMT lines.
The larger quantity jobs have
basically disappeared,” Vencken says.
Mara Technologies serves a niche
market: we cater to small and medi-
um-sized jobs that are too complicated
to be completed by the bigger manu-
facturing houses.”
Mara Technologies has been suc-
cessful in the markets they serve, stay-
ing away from consumer goods and
automotive and instead focusing on
telecommunications, industrial elec-
tronics, medical electronics, and other
industries. “If you’re good at what you
do, you can take advantage of those
types of jobs,” Vencken notes.
