“When you consider that the
275KW Vergnet turbine –assembled
on the ground and maintained on
the ground—is transportable, we
can put these turbines in remote
areas,” says Leopold Faye, Sales
Manager for Vergnet. “This turbine
in particular is designed for remote
areas, like the desert, and can make
it possible for small communities to
have their own wind farms to
connect off of transmission lines.”
DEVELOPING THE WIND BUSINESS IN
AFRICA
Vergnet has gone into remote
areas in Africa to develop wind farms
for the benefit of small communities.
“These farms create jobs and
revenue. Doing these activities are
part of our sustainability policy, and
they are very interesting projects for
farmers,” he adds. The company is
focused in Southern and Eastern
Africa, and has plans to have some
of their turbines manufactured in
South Africa, and has projects in
Mauritania and Nigeria.
When it comes to development in
local regions, Faye says that there
are some challenges, but overall
growing the wind business has been
