GLOBAL RENEWABLES ONLINE - FEBRUARY / MARCH 2012
The ACORE membership also
includes f inancial institutions,
government leaders, educators,
end-users, professional service
providers and allied non-prof it
groups. The council publishes
collaborative research and facili-
tates communications among
members, their stakeholders and
the media.
Todd Foley, ACORE’s Senior
Vice President, Policy & Govern-
ment Relations, spoke with GRO
about the Council’s work on
various issues affecting the
renewables industry in the U.S.,
and how these issues go beyond
national borders. Prior to joining
ACORE in 2012, Foley served in
several industry and Federal
government positions, including
most recently 12 years at BP
Solar where he was director of
business development and exter-
nal affairs. He has also served
on the Board of Directors of the
Solar Energy Industries Associa-
tion (SEIA), Solar Electric Power
Association (SEPA), Solar Alli-
ance and the Texas Renewable
Energy Industries Association
(TREIA).
GRO: What are some of the
common threads that make up
your member base and how you
work for those members?
Todd Foley: The technologies
used in renewables and by our
members are different, the
companies’ focuses are different,
but they all have one common
denominator: they work in
renewable energy. ACORE brings
together the whole renewable
sector—from every market and
every technology. We speak a
global language too, and work
with national and international
developers, manufacturers, end
user, f inanciers, governments,
universities, banks, and consul-
tants—we have a very broad
member base. For our members
we focus on big picture cross
cutting issues.
We’re also always working on
f inance issues, including how we
f inance emerging technologies.
We evaluate capital availability
and investment issues, consider-
ing policy, tax issues, and
understanding the business
structures and how renewables
are developed.
ACORE brings
together the whole
renewable sector—
from every market
and every
technology.
