THE THANET OFFSHORE WIND FARM

HE PROJECT, LOCATED
about 12 km from the
most eastern point of Kent,
has the capacity to supply
more than 200,000 homes per
year with clean energy (300
MW). The turbines in the farm
are Vestas V90 model—there
are 100 in total. The project
was completed in September
2010, and will contribute to
the Government’s national
and regional renewable ener-
gy targets.

Sandys made an ideal spokes-
person for the benef its and
advantages of the wind farm to
her local communities. Fur-
thermore, Sandys is an advo-
cate for a green economy in
Thanet, one that she looks to
promote as an example for other
deprived areas of the world that
can benef it from renewable
energy growth. Sandys has
been the MP since 2010, and
has made great headway with
her “Grand Green Isle” vision
since.
