GLOBAL RENEWABLES ONLINE - DECEMBER 2011
APPLICATIONS
Controlling the power of water is a daunting
task, but that’s exactly what Geotube® technology
has been doing since 1962. Around the world
Geotube® technology has been used to protect
and rebuild shorelines, build waterfront
structures and even create islands where they
didn’t exist before.
Geotube® technology has been installed for
coastal protection in over 50 countries, and has
literally saved millions of dollars for companies
and individuals.
In addition to protecting the world’s shorelines,
Geotube® technology is ideal for marine remedia-
tion and the containment of toxic sediments con-
taining PCB’s and other harmful chemicals.
AQUACULTURE
Tencate’s Geotube® technology is now ap-
proved as a Best Management Practice for Aqua-
culture by the State of North Carolina. Geotube®
dewatering technology works for fresh water
marine fn-fsh, shrimp, and other aquatic species.
It simplifes the process for water recirculation,
and retains more than 99% of suspended solids.
Geotube® dewatering technology reduces
nutrient loading in fltrate. It can be used continu-
ously or intermittently year-round in most
climates. It is ideal for lagoon, retention pond and
flter waste applications. It can be used for cage
waste removal, benthic table waste cleanup,
recirculation waste removal for hatcheries and
grow out, and processing plant waste dewatering.
Dewatered solids can be land applied for
nutrient enhancement, or secondary composted
for soil production.
PULP AND PAPER
Pulp and paper mills need to effectively
manage water in order to be successful. The
Geotube® solution can achieve this in a manner
that is likely more cost effective than what is
currently being used, and also in a way that meets
environmental concerns.
Geotube® dewatering technology has been
used for lagoon cleanout, dewatering of process
waste and even environmental contamination.
For some facilities, the Geotube® solution is a
temporary process; for others, it is a regular part
of their operations. The fexibility of the Geotube®
solution allows for both options.
The technology in the Geotube® dewatering
process has proven to yield extremely good
results. In some cases, material has reached solid
levels of more than 45%.
LIGHT INDUSTRY
For many industrial applications, dewatering
is a necessary process that costs time and requires
expensive and complicated equipment. But thanks
to the Geotube® Solution, there is a cost effective
way to perform dewatering.
The Geotube® Solution can be a temporary or
permanent solution to your waste treatment
needs. Geotube® technology can be sized to meet
the needs of each industry individually, whether
the operation requires a great amount of capacity,
or whether the facility performs dewatering once
every quarter.
Geotube® technology further helps when a
company expands, or out-grows their lagoons
and drying beds. Geotube® containers can
provide a quick lagoon cleanout, or add capacity
by making drying beds much more effcient.
Geotube® containers can also be stacked on top
of each other, adding to further capacity.
MUNICIPALITIES
Municipalities around the world, both urban
and rural, face many challenges when dealing
with the wastewater created by its population.
These include; the processing of wastewater, cost
of disposal of biosolids, fnding environmentally
safe disposal methods, onsite storage capacity
and the ability to handle septic waste. For the last
ffteen years the Geotube® dewatering solution
has been providing municipalities with solutions
for these concerns and more.
