CANADIAN INDUSTRY ONLINE - FEBRUARY / MARCH 2012
Electrical energy utilities fre-
quently have implementation co-
funding assistance.
ADDRESS PROBLEM DRIVERS
Electrical and thermal energy
are frequently the most expen-
sive utilities at commercial and
industrial facilities. Energy ef-
f iciency assessments typically
identify opportunities to reduce
consumption by 5 to 15% with
returns on investment ranging
from 6 months to 2 years.
Consumption of energy con-
tributes to greenhouse gas (GHG)
emissions, which are a cause of
climate change.
WATER CONSERVATION
Enviro-Stewards
addresses
more than just water usage, the
cost of which is growing faster
than the rate of inf lation. We of-
fer multimedia audit expertise
that result in water conservation,
pollution prevention, and energy
eff iciency. Without this coordi-
nated approach you could reduce
water usage while exceeding mu-
nicipal eff luent discharge bylaws.
Water rates are increasing rap-
idly but addressing them alone
is not enough. Conserving water
in isolation can unintentionally
cause secondary issues. For
example, reducing water con-
sumption by 50% can result in a
doubling of eff luent contaminant
concentrations (mg/L). Although
the actual mass of eff luent con-
taminants (kg) remains un-
changed, the resulting higher
concentrations can exceed mu-
nicipal bylaw eff luent discharge
limits.
ACCESS INCENTIVES
Water utility providers are
beginning to realize that it is less
expensive to co-fund water
conservation assessment and
implementation work than to
source and treat new water
supplies.
ADDRESS PROBLEM DRIVERS
Water rates in many jurisdic-
tions exceed $2/m3 and are in-
creasing faster than the rate of
inf lation (often 10% per year).
Therefore, water conservation is
a valuable tool for reducing
operating costs and providing
