a
business success story dating
back 40 years, from the western New-
foundland community of Corner
Brook.
A family business, Way’s has
been the “rock’s” rock in transporta-
tion services—a company that has
provided employment opportunities
for Newfoundlanders and transport
services from island experts.
Founder Clyde Way was born in
Flowers Cove, Newfoundland, and at
an early age had a penchant for busi-
ness. His first job was wheeling bar-
rows of coal from the docked schoo-
ners to the local co-op warehouse. By
the time he was 17, Clyde was working
with his uncle distributing beverages
for a local company. According to a
historical account of the company, of-
ten “he would risk getting the goods
around Bonne Bay via a new path,
so he would not have to wait for the
ferry.” At 20, Clyde purchased a dump
truck and began helping link local
communities by road as the shipping
industry slowed. By 1973, Clyde had
garnered new business and started
acquiring new equipment; this was the
beginning of Way’s Transport.
Now, Clyde’s son Monty is in the
process of moving on from the compa-
ny that he helped build with his father,
