Southmedic boasts an in house
R&D team that has innovated pro-
prietary anesthetic and respiratory
products in addition to the aesthetic
devices. The company’s OxyMask™
is patented and sold globally, and ac-
cording to Southmedic is providing
patients with 24%-90% oxygen without
the claustrophobic effects of a conven-
tional closed mask. “OxyMask is truly
innovative and is revolutionizing Oxy-
gen Therapy worldwide,” the compa-
ny states.
When it comes to the end user,
these products developed by South-
medic are ultimately improving pa-
tient care. “Our masks are different.
They allow a vortex of oxygen that
allows patients to achieve the same
treatment without having nose sores,
and the patient is also better able to
talk. These masks are more comfort-
able, which is critical—our products
are all about improving the health care
experience,” Dwyer insists.
“
The idea behind these masks is
to have one mask that can eliminate
the need for multiple masks, and also
deliver a higher saturation of oxygen,”
Dwyer says. “With our mask, you can
do the jobs of three masks.”
While Southmedic’s products are revo-
lutionary, they can be tough to sell in
Canada, because they are “different
than what people are used to: much
different looking.”
However, the Southmedic team
is up for the challenge. The sales team
is trained and has the clinical under-
standing to sell the Southmedic prod-
uct line-up, which is imperative to the
company’s success. In addition, South-
medic’s Canadian distribution divi-
sion has grown to be one of the largest
independent distributors of specialty
products “focusing on technical sup-
port and knowledge that is essential to
providing a better healthcare experi-
ence.”
Southmedic employs ten engi-
neers as well as a team of regulatory
experts to navigate Canadian health-
care policy.
MANUFACTURING
In addition to anaesthesia and
respiratory products, Southmedic has
created sterile products for the operat-
ing room as well as surgical blades.
