TRAINING AND SAFETY
Great Lakes Power has also
developed training packages for
First Nations communities, so that
individuals can build their skill sets
in order to get contract work on
reserves, and take those skills to
work elsewhere. “The training
programs have been a great suc-
cess,” McClinchey says.
Overall, GLPT employs an exten-
sive system of procedures and
monitoring and continually raise
the bar on environmental manage-
ment. When it comes to safety, stan-
dards are even higher. “When it
comes to safety management, not
only do our policies apply to our
internal employees but we take it
down to our external contractors
and sub-contractors. We emphasize
training, and we believe this makes
us a good corporate citizen.”
Being a smaller subsidiary of a
larger organization, the legacy of the
original Great Lakes Power company
is still upheld in the community,
and GLPT continues to maintain its
accountability to the public: “our
name has resounded with the
community since the beginning,”
McClinchey concludes.
