TN: After the Green Energy Act
came out there was a lot more
activity in the sector. We are lucky
when it comes to the competition,
because we have German suppliers.
We picked suppliers that would
provide us with the best support. In
May, 2009 we started manufactur-
ing products ourselves, and it was
around this time that the Mayor
started pushing Windsor as the
solar capital in the world for
manufacturing.
We have noticed that the attitudes
around renewables and solar have
changed. You can tell that kids are
aware of what the opportunities are,
when we have them at the Centre. It
is important to raise the next
generation and teach them to be
aware of renewable energy.
Hopefully, we can plant the seed
and change the attitude and
behaviour in the next couple of
years. Green Sun Rising is the main
company in Windsor trying to do
this. But it has taken a long time
and a lot of hard work to be suc-
cessful. Now, the market is growing.
KD: We need to educate people
that the use of renewable energy
leads to a higher quality of life. It
leads to a better environment, more
job creation, and new industries. If
we create energy we don’t need to
send armies into other places to
protect oil interests. The biggest
gorilla in the room—climate
change—is by far the biggest threat
to humanity on this planet. But
around the world, people do still not
understand what is coming our way.
If we continue on this trajectory
unchanged we are in trouble.
GRO: So what is the future
for Green Sun Rising, then,
and the RET Centre?
TN: Right now we are launching
our carport solution. We are future
looking and forward-thinking. We
always try to have something new.
Our team is very important to us,
some of the team has been with us
since the beginning. Our plan for
2012 is to gain some stability for the
business.
KD: First and foremost, our
company needs to survive and grow.
We want to increase business and
continue to satisfy our customers.
And of course, because the Centre
has been so successful, we would
like to model the RET centre concept
and put it elsewhere in Canada.
