ON-GRID WIND POWER CONTROLLER
SYSTEM
The controller is the “brains” of
the ReDriven wind turbine system.
There are numerous sophisticated
features in the controller that allow
the user the ultimate control over
the wind turbine. For example, the
Maximum Wind Speed feature
allows the user to preset a maximum
wind speed at which the controller
will allow the wind turbine to stay
in the wind.
An extension of Maximum Wind
Speed (MWS) feature is the Wind
Timer. If the turbine turns out of the
wind because the MWS is reached,
then the Wind Timer will monitor
the Maximum Wind Speed set by
the user. For example, if the timer is
set for 12 minutes then the system
will monitor the wind speed for the
desired maximum for 12 minutes. If
no further recordings of the MWS
are experienced then the turbine
will turn back into the wind and
operate normally. However, if the
MWS are experienced within the 12
minute period then the Wind Timer
will reset and start the countdown
over again.
Another controller feature is the
Maximum Rotations per Minute
setting. The main benefit of control-
ling the maximum RPM is to adjust
noise levels; in this way ReDriven
can boast some of the quietest
systems in the small wind industry.
In addition, the Max RPM feature
allows the user to set a maximum
RPM so that the turbine will
automatically control the RPM at a
specific level. It does this by
regulating the power output and
protecting the turbine in very high
wind conditions.
The Control System monitors and
reports over 15 different fault
conditions to ensure that the
monitored systems are functioning
properly. The monitored systems are
compared in real time to the
historical results of this monitoring
system. Over thousands of hours of
turbine operation ReDriven has
developed a standard operating
profile for each model of wind
turbine. By comparing real time and
historical data, ReDriven can very
quickly understand when a turbine
is in its healthy operating range and
when a turbine is in distress. When
a difference is detected in this
comparison, an email is proactively
sent to the dealer to visit the turbine
for a specific issue. No other small
wind turbine on the market today
offers these and many other features
to their dealers and customers.
