In addition, Enviro-Stewards
provides assistance to the public
sector in the health care sector
as well as federal, provincial/
state and local governments.
Taylor says that the company
does the most work in the food
and beverage sector, “but also an
increasing amount of work is in
the pharmaceutical, manufac-
turing, automotive and aerospace
industries.”
Taylor has run many success-
ful projects, but he says that
there are some that spring to
mind when talking about a real
difference in a company’s
operations and bottom line. One
particular client that worked
with Enviro-Stewards gained
substantially in the longer-term.
“A normal engineering approach
to sustainability for this
particular client would have been
to build them a treatment plant
for their waste. Instead, we
modif ied
their
production
process and they are now saving
$490,000 a year in their
operations,” he ref lects.
“The projects I’m most proud
of are when companies get on
board to work with us in one
area, and then realize benef its
on all sides.”
“Our mission is to increase,
sustain and share,” Taylor
explains, when speaking about
the company’s approach to
helping businesses. By “increas-
ing,” Taylor means that Enviro-
Stewards works to increase sales
and margins with the implemen-
tation of sustainability initia-
tives. The next step is to sustain
these initiatives within the
management system, and sus-
tain the things the company rec-
ommends to their clients: moni-
toring and tracking progress.
The f inal element of the consul-
tation is to share the success
and organization has had—this
is something companies are
much more apt to do when a new
more sustainable process has
made a signif icant difference.
When it comes to transitioning
to a more sustainable business,
it is important that a company
believes in what it’s doing. “Peo-
ple think it’s so hard to be a
leader in sustainability,” Taylor
comments, “but you can go from
being a laggard to a leader in a
relatively short amount of time—
most companies are surprised
once they work with us.”
