CANADIAN INDUSTRY ONLINE - FEBRUARY / MARCH 2012
study & leadership tours,
student voluntourism programs,
specif ic interest tours with a
def ined there (i.e. textile tours,
choir tours and others) and also
women’s only travel itineraries.
By their def inition, these are
unique, targeted and one-off
tour programs. As a f inal
comment on these types of tours;
they are generally offered once
and, even if planned a second or
third time, each has to be recog-
nized and priced as a unique
tour due to the outside
inf luences that effect the date,
time and world economic
situations that impact the
program.
At the outset it was put forth
that a large number of travel
professionals have a fear of group
travel and that has been aff irmed
many times. Unfortunately it is
not from a lack of wanting to get
into these markets but more
from one of not understanding
the very basics that makes group
travel lucrative and desirable.
For those that thrive in this area,
their rewards are great—for
those that have yet to explore its
potential, the “world” awaits.
