CANADIAN INDUSTRY ONLINE - OCTOBER 2014
Today, Mount St. Louis is a go-
to training facility for snowboarders
and a great place to learn for kids. Al-
though skiing and snowboarding have
shifted back and forth in terms of pop-
ularity, “right now skiing is bigger,”
Huter says.
BRINGING IN MORE SNOW- LOVERS
There are many things you can do
to a resort to drive more business, and
many of them don’t have anything to
do with weather.
This year, celebrating 50 years
in operation, Mount St. Louis will be
offering Night Skiing to its loyal and
new patrons. “We are installing lights
and opening the hill for night skiing,”
Huter exclaims. “Our local markets
weren’t coming to the resort because
we didn’t have full hours, so it’s made
sense to do this. Wednesday to Sunday
nights we will have a whole new cus-
tomer base,” he continues.
Mount St. Louis has remained a fam-
ily favourite for 50 years because of
a great location, beautiful conditions
and a commitment from a family team
to give skiers the best possible experi-
ence. The resort offers a popular ski
school that has been very well received
and continues to thrive.
Our culture is great: we are a fam-
ily operation with a good standing in
the community. People have worked
here since my dad started the opera-
tion and their kids and grandchildren
now work here,” Huter notes. This is
a generational business. Our tradition
will continue with my own children
showing interest in the business,” he
continues.
Mount St. Louis has responded to
customer wants and desires since the
resort started. “We know what skiers
want and as a resort, we are not pulled
away by real estate or summer opera-
tions. Skiing in our bread and butter
and all that we do,” Huter concludes.
We have always been visionary when
it comes to what we offer.”
With a great location just minutes off
the 400 highway and an hour north of
Toronto, Mount St. Louis is in the right
place at the right time to grow. The
resort has continued to provide de-
pendable conditions, great service and
a top-notch property—with something
for everyone from small children to ad-
vanced skiers, the resort will continue
to be a destination in Ontario for the
next 50 years.
