and manufacturing bus tours for stu-
dents. Working with the Manufactur-
ing Co-ordinator the board directs stra-
tegic initiatives such as those outlined
in the Manufacturing Sector Strategic
Plan (1999), Manufacturing Sector
Marketing Strategy (2005) and Call
Program (2008). The Huron County
Economic Blueprint, launched in 2011
provides a roadmap for future stra-
tegic directions for manufacturing in
Huron.
Whether big or small, products
made in Huron County are world-class
and are sold across the globe. In 2006,
the HMA started the annual Manufac-
turing Excellence Awards to recognize
achievements in areas such as innova-
tion, encouraging youth participation
and corporate citizenship.
The HMA continues to develop
its capacity to serve its members. The
Renewable Energy Networking Group
(RENG) and the Food & Agriculture
Networking Group (FANG) are exam-
ples of new sector-specific information
sharing groups created in 2009 and
2010.”
While Huron’s companies may
be small, collectively they are mighty.
They know through experience how
to overcome the disadvantage of scale
through collaboration and networking.
The efforts of the HMA ensure Hu-
ron’s manufacturing sector continues
to be at the forefront of innovation and
competitiveness based on the inherent
expertise of its entrepreneurs and skills
of its workforce.
