CANADIAN INDUSTRY ONLINE - FEBRUARY/MARCH 2014
especially when it comes to rail trans-
port which is a continuous network.
So much of our trade goes through
significant points, such as the crossing
into Detroit—we need to make sure we
work harmoniously with the U.S.
What should Canadians know
about the importance of transporta-
tion in our country?
Transportation is absolutely es-
sential to our prosperity as a country.
We’re a trading nation, and there is
always lots of opportunity in this in-
dustry.
I would encourage Canadians,
and especially women to take the op-
portunity to get into careers in ship-
ping and trading—I would also like to
see more women at boardroom tables.
Transport Canada is going to con-
tinue to partner with stakeholders in
all provinces, and we want Canadians
to know that their transportation sys-
tem is safe, reliable, sustainable, and
efficient.
Our transportation system is one
that we should have great pride in.
I would en-
courage Cana-
dians, and espe-
cially women
to take the op-
portunity to
get into ca-
reers in ship-
ping and trad-
ing—I would
also like to see
more women at
boardroom ta-
bles.”
