ECONOMIC SUMMIT

ON.: From Tuesday, November 6th to
Thursday the 8th, Ontario’s business
and civic leaders delivered a plan that
will enable Ontario to emerge stronger
from this period of economic transition
at the 9th annual Ontario Economic
Summit (OES). The OES is an initiative
of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce
(
OCC).
Attendees included Ontario Pre-
mier Dalton McGuinty, his Cabinet,
opposition leaders Tim Hudak and An-
drea Horwath, U.S. political commen-
tator David Frum, former Prime Minis-
ter Paul Martin, former Chicago Mayor
Richard M. Daley, and the who’s who
of Ontario’s business, labour, non-prof-
it, Aboriginal and academic communi-
ties.
During his address, Minister of
Economic Development and Innova-
tion Brad Duguid, thanked Summit
participants, saying that the partner-
ships and collaborations built at events
like these, “create the shared visions
and strategies that can drive progress
locally and provincially.”

This Summit isn’t simply about

and families.” The Ontario Jobs and
Prosperity Council featured promi-
nently in the OES program. The Coun-
cil heard from delegates on a number
of areas critical to Ontario’s future
competitiveness. The Government of
Ontario formed the Jobs and Prosper-
ity Council in Spring 2012 and ap-
pointed Gord Nixon, CEO of the Royal
Bank of Canada, as its head. According
to Gord Nixon, “the OES has allowed
the Jobs and Prosperity Council to
engage in discussions on the need for
change and to gain feedback on what
