RECENT NEWS FROM INVEST PEI:
c/o
Atlantic Advanced Power Technolo-
gies to open at Pooles Corner
The Government of Prince Ed-
ward Island is accelerating the rural
economy by investing in businesses
which match our labour force market,”
said Minister Roach. “Through our ex-
cellent training program at the nearby
Holland College - Georgetown facility,
companies such as AAPT have access
to trained Island job applicants.”
The Government of PEI, through
the PEI Century Fund will provide
AAPT with financial assistance of a
$1.5 million loan towards a $3.2 mil-
lion project to establish a manufactur-
ing facility for commercial marine and
other equipment. Innovation PEI is
providing assistance through the In-
novation and Development Labour
Rebate, and the Marketing Support
Program.
AAPT is a joint venture between
Jason Aspin and Elizabeth Boyd,
owners of two complementary busi-
nesses engaged in the marine tech-
nology market. Aspin is an owner of
AspinKemp and Associates (AKA),
an established designer and builder of
electrical equipment for marine and
industrial environments. Boyd is an
owner of Careli Marine Corporation
Ltd (CMC), an engineering company
looking to expand their company to
PEI. AAPT will perform work for both
AKA and CMC as well as offering ma-
chining and metal fabrication services
to other Island businesses.
AAPT will be hiring from 10
employees to an expected 30 employ-
ees over the next five years. Positions
range from skilled machinists, assem-
bly workers, welders, drafters, shop
supervisors, and engineers, as well as
administrative staff.
The Pooles Corner facility pro-
vides both the space and the high qual-
ity machinery we need to support the
manufacturing needs of our growing
businesses,” said Mr. Aspin. “Having it
right here on the Island in an area with
a pool of skilled labour and an excel-
lent training facility made the choice
that much better for us.”
Further employment is expected
to be created by those companies that
sublet surplus space in the building
from AAPT.
